Monday Mix--Africa Day!!!
今日は、素晴しきリズムのルーツを探求しに、音の大地「アフリカ」を目指し、針路を南へ向けてみよう。
まず最初に紹介するビデオはグラミー賞受賞アーティスト、南アフリカの歌姫、Miriam Makeba（ミリアム・マケバ）。彼女が“ママ・アフリカ”のニック・ネームで呼ばれることからも、彼女が現代アフリカン・ミュージック史でどれだけ重要な人物なのかがわかるはず。
次に紹介するビデオは、南アフリカのハーモニーの雄、レディスミス・ブラック・マンバーゾ。アフリカ国外では、ポール・スミスとの長きにおよぶ共演で、彼等のことを知る人も多いはず。リーダーのJoseph Shabalalaが率いるこのグループ、いまだ現役活動中だが、なんとこのリーダーのジョセフが今年後半にも長い芸歴に終止符を打つと発表した。
最後はレディスミス・ブラック・マンバーゾとポール・サイモンのジンバブエでの共演。
Today we take a trip south to appreciate the roots of rhythm―Africa Our first video is from Grammy-award winning South African songstress Miriam Makeba. The fact that her nickname is Mama Africa should tell you just how important she is in the modern history of African music.
Our second video is by the South Africa’s kings of harmony, Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Outside of Africa they are probably best known for their long-time collaboration with Paul Simon. They were formed and are still led by Joseph Shabalala, but he recently announced that he will retire later this year.
The last video is Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Paul Simon singing "Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes" live in Zimbabwe. Amazing!
