Ken’s Top 5 Favorite Bass Players
本日は、俺の個人的なお気に入りベースプレイヤーをご紹介。俺自身もベースをプレイするし、Top5 なんてサクッと選択出来ると軽い気持ちで考え始め、フッと気付いた。あれもこれもと、次ぎから次へと優れたベーシストの名が頭を過り、たった5名の名を挙げるなんて俺には難し過ぎる！！悩んだ挙句のこのリスト、インディーシーンからのランクインは1名のみ、さらにファンク色が濃く出た。これは俺自身がファンクを聴いて育ち、ファンク系ベーシストに多大な影響を受けたという個人的背景の結果。とは言っても、カサビアン(Kasabian)のベーシストのベースラインもかっこよくて大好きだし、ベイビーシャンブルズ(Babyshambles)のDrewも才能溢れる逸材。

1) ジェームス・ジェマーソン
「ジェームス・ジェマーソン？」との声も聞こえてきそうだが・・・彼はモータウン黄金期に数々のヒット曲に参加したスタジオ・ベーシスト。「マイガール」、「悲しいうわさ」、「Bernadette」などの曲でその腕を披露した。きっと、今回のリスト中の他のベーシスト達にとっても、彼からの影響は大きかったはず。

Today I thought it would share my favorite bass players of all time for you. I thought it would be easy, but there are so many great bass players that it actually was difficult for me to just pick five. You'll notice that I only include one indies bass player on my list, but that is just becuase I grew up listening to a lot of funk and was most inspired by funk bassists. However, I will say that I am a big fan of the dude from Kasabian as his lines are very, very cool. Drew from Babyshambles is also very talented. OK, my list:
5) Taichi Seki (from Kansai-area band Low Relief)--Some of the most solid and beautiful bass lines I've ever heard (バッファロー)
4) Flea (RHCP)--Great melodies & creativity and ridiculous energy (Blood Sugar Sex Magik)
3) Jaco Pastorious--Possibly the most important person in the history of modern bass (Jaco Pastorius)
2) Les Claypool (Primus)--My hero when I was in high school. (Frizzle Fry)
and...
1) James Jamerson--For those of you not familiar with James Jamerson, he was the studio bassist for most of the great Motown songs. My Girl, Heard it through the Grapevine, Bernadine, etc... Everyone else on this list would probably list him as their top influence as well.
